About

crawlsignals is for anyone who asks, before a project, what a website says about being read by machines. It is free and carries no advertising. No site pays to be listed, ranked or removed, and every site goes through the same steps.

How to read a fingerprint

One glyph per site, drawn from its record alone, by the same rules for every site. Below: an example, not a real site, with the crawler of each spoke named.

  1. Spokes: one per crawler, 15 in all, clockwise from the top: all crawlers (*), Googlebot, Bingbot and 12 AI crawlers. The length is what its robots.txt rules say over the whole file, as RFC 9309 reads it.nothing disallowedsome paths disallowedwhole site disallowednamed in robots.txtnot named; the rules for all crawlers (*) applynot named, and no rules for all crawlerstop: * · then Googlebot · Bingbot · GPTBot · OAI-SearchBot · ChatGPT-User · ClaudeBot · Claude-SearchBot · Claude-User · Google-Extended · Applebot-Extended · PerplexityBot · CCBot · Bytespider · meta-externalagent
  2. Base ring: robots.txt. The spokes grow from it.beads: sentences quoted from its commentsa second ring outside it: the comments prohibit crawlingdashed, no spokes: not parsed; the status our crawler got is printed above it (404: no rules under RFC 9309; any other refusal our fetcher reads as every path disallowed)
  3. Inner rings: one per document in the record, from the centre outward.readnot read by us (our gap)beads: quotes from it
  4. Centre: the official way in, one mark each; empty when none was found by us.APIfeedbulk exporta circle around them: a standard licence named in the site's own words

Ink only, in two weights and a grey; no colour. The glyph describes what a site says and what we read; it is not a score, and nothing in it means good or bad.
